Chichester Harbour Events - September 2017

Walks and TalksTue 12 September 7pm 2hrs
Bat Walk – 12 places left

Features: A stroll at dusk to listen for and identify bats. With Nik Knight, expert from the Bat Conservation Trust. Bar facilities will be open at the Yacht Club beforehand (you might need to ring the bell first for admission).
Fee: £5 per person (half to the Bat Conservation Society). Booking essential online or by phone on 01243 513275.
Meet: outside Chichester Yacht Club, Chichester Marina, PO20 7EJ.
Free parking by kind permission of the Club.

Wed 13 September 10 am 2½hrs
Archaeology Walk with CITiZAN

Features: A stroll along the Prinsted shoreline looking out for and hearing about the archaeological features, including the oyster beds, saltworking sites and Bronze Age pottery. With a Project Officer from CitiZan (Coastal and Intertidal Zone Archaeological Network) supported by the Nautical Archaeological Society and the Council for British Archaeology.
Fee: Free of charge – courtesy of CITiZAN, to include coffee afterwards. Please go to the events page at www.citizan.org.uk to book your place on the walk.

Chichester Harbour Trail – 17 places left

Features: A unique, guided, 38 mile linear walk of the Chichester Harbour shoreline over three days, from Langstone at the start on day one to West Wittering at the end of day three. Day one covers 12 miles from Langstone to Nutbourne, day two 14 miles from Nutbourne to Fishbourne and day three, 12 miles from Fishbourne to West Wittering via East Head. Using public bus services in between. Detailed arrangements will be sent out a week beforehand.

Meet: first day meeting in Langstone, second and third days at Fishbourne Roman Palace by kind permission.

Features: A stroll to look for and identify the hedgerow plants and shrubs and hear about their uses.
Fee: £5 per person on the day.

The Harbour in Textiles – 7 places left

Features: Create a miniature picture in textiles of the Harbour landscape with the guidance of artist Karen Berry. All materials will be supplied and a simple frame will be available to buy.
Minimum age 15 years.

Canoe Safari

Sat 9 September 1pm 3hrs
Features: In rafted open canoes (no previous skill required)

A fun session run in partnership with Cobnor Activities Centre to both hear about the Harbour’s wildlife and to have a go at canoeing, learning from qualified instructors. Bring extra footwear to get wet (that stays
on, not flipflops) and a change of clothes just in case. Complete the consent form available from the Cobnor Activities Centre website

Solar Heritage Boat Trips

Solar Heritage is a 14-metre solar powered catamaran licensed for public boat trips. She can carry up to 50 passengers. The boat is open-sided for unimpeded views so warm clothing and wet weather gear is advised. There is a toilet onboard and the boat is fitted with a wheelchair lift.

Departures from Emsworth (to 21 September incl): Please go to the bottom of South Street, walk 300m along the Promenade and wait at the top of the jetty 15 minutes before departure time and the crew will collect you. Park in the pay and display car park in South Street PO10 7EH.

Departures from Itchenor (from 24 September) Please wait on the viewing platform in front of the Harbour Office 15 minutes before departure time and the crew will collect you. Park in the pay and display car park near The Ship pub - PO20 7AE.
